Hi, Installed Beta 2 but cannot get the aero feature to enable? Searched several forums and it appears that the chipset should support aero but unable to find any drivers that work. Does anybody know if these drivers are available or will be soon? The download vista upgrade utility returns an Ok for my setup for all aero/core features but the rating using the built in utility returns 2.0 (assume I need at least 3.0 to enabled aero). Using Dell 6400 (core due 1.8,1G ram, 30g partition for vista, 945GM chipset (950 graphics). Thanks,

Intel 945GM chipset vista drivers
Sorry double post, got an error and sent again, see earlier post.

I was planning on throwing together a 945G chipset based system to test
Vista Beta 2. I read on the Intel site that the Feb. Beta 1 release included Intel drivers to support 950 graphics, including AERO. But it also stated that those drivers would only work with that release. I assumed that Intel updated the drivers for the public Beta 2 release, but that may not be the case. If true, that's disappointing. I didn't want to have to buy a discrete graphics card for this testing. However, the AERO interface is one of the things I wanted to take a look at.
Intel did release a new set of 945G drivers dated 3/23/2006 on their Website which I am using with Beta2 but since I only have 512MB of Ram I do not know if they support Aero.

The current Intel drivers for the 945G chipset work just fine but they do NOT support Glass, and they are only available for Vista 32-bit not 64-bit.
However as long as you have the 945G and not the 945Gm, Vista Beta 2 come with Intel Lakeside video drivers that are WDDM and do support Glass.

That's interesting, although I sure couldn't find them no matter how
hard I looked. All I could find were the 3/26/2006 Win2000/XP drivers. Would you mind pointing out where exactly you found them? Thanks.

That's good news. Now I'll go ahead with building my 945G based test
system for Vista Beta 2.
I didn't say that they were special Vista drivers since they are not. They are the regular XP drivers

Here is a quote from a post of HDRDTD in another thread that is appropriate. "" My Dell dimension E510 uses the Intel 945G chipset, and both Vista-32 and Vista-64 install by default, an Intel Lakeside WDDM driver for the intergrated video that does support Glass.
However, in both versions of Vista, it will leave a video device as an 'unknown' device.
If you use windows Update to look for a driver, Vista-32 will find and download a video driver specifically for the 945G video, but that driver does NOT support Glass. re-setting the driver back to using the Microsoft WDDM drive (Intel Lakeside) returns the sys back to supporting Glass.
Vista-64 will not find an Intel specific driver for the 945G and it will continue to run using the Microaost WDDM drive for Intel Lakeside video.
Systems that are using the 945Gm chipset however do not support Glass.
""

I have a 945GM and found the info on loading the lakeport driver at following link useful. http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=35038
After I loaded the lakeport driver, I refreshed the performance rating and video is now 3.0, enough for AERO.
